John Greenleaf Whittier letter, ca. 1831.

A proposal of marriage to Cornelia Russ of Hartford, Connecticut, from poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier upon his leaving Hartford in December 1831. The authenticity of the letter is in question due to his closing of "yours most truly", not in keeping with his Quaker reserve.
